The Jena Junior High Giants finished their season this past week as they defeated the Winnfield Tigers 16-0 to finish the season with a 6-1 record.
The Giants had some good games this past season. In week one the Giants played at home against Tioga. The Giants trailed 14-0 at halftime. In the second half the Giants came storming back as they tied the game at 14. Tioga had the ball late in the game trying to score to win but Jena safety Whit Windham would intercept a pass around mid-field and returned it all the way for the touchdown to give the Giants a 2014 win.
In week two, the Giants would get a big win at home against Buckeye 38-8, but Jena would suffer a close loss at Caldwell, 14-12, the following week. The Giants would then travel to Brame Jr. High (ASH Feeder School) in Alexandria and would get a hard fought 28-26 win. Jena tight end Hayden Deville had a touchdown catch to get the Giants on the board first. The Giants defense stopped Brame on a 2-point conversion late in the game to get the win.
The Giants would travel to Pineville and would once again be trailing at halftime. But the Giants would come back to win 38-34. Jena running backs Kaeden Kittlin, Kayson Dean, and Jonas Jenkins would lead the Giants on offense.
The Giants would return home to get a 30-6 win over Vidalia. Jena receiver Brittain Johnson had a long touchdown run in the game.
In the last game the Giants would defeat Winnfield 16-0. Jena outside linebacker Elijah Gemar played an excellent game on defense as he had lots of tackles in the game. The Giants were led up front by the offensive line Eian Girod, Lucas Vickers, Owen Girlinghouse, Cannon Joy, Dru Douglas, and Levi Hammock.
On defensive line the Giants were led by Cullan Elliott, Matthew Jones, and Lucan DeLaSalle. It was a fun and exciting season for the Giants. The Giants not only excelled on the field but in the classroom as well as the overall team grade point average was a 3.2. Since 2013 the Giants have had three seasons where they only lost one game and have had four unbeaten seasons. The Giants have not lost home game since the 2018 season.
The Giants had 28 eighth graders this season that we are all excited to watch play for the high school team next season.
Congratulations guys on another great season.
