Georgetown Chief of Police George Hinds was arrested last week on a charge of malfeasance in office following a nearly three-month investigation by the Louisiana State Police (LSP).
According to Master Trooper and Public Information Officer Casey Wallace of the LSP, the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/ Alexandria Field Office received a complaint about the 51-year-old Georgetown Police Chief in August, alleging that he had taken cash after stopping a vehicle.
“According to the provided information, Hinds collected a cash payment on a traffic stop,” Wallace reported. “As a result of information obtained during the investigation, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office secured an arrest warrant for Hinds.”
On Monday, October 16, Hinds was booked into the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Jail for malfeasance in office.
Wallace said the Louisiana State Police will serve as the lead investigative agency and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
“There is no further information available at this time,” he concluded.
He did note that the Louisiana State Police online reporting system is also available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators.
Citizens can access the form by visiting www. lsp.org and clicking the Report Suspicious or Criminal Activity link.
