Early voting for the November 18 Gubernatorial General Election concludes this week, according to La-Salle Parish Registrar of Voters Angie Sandifer.
During the final three days, voters may cast their early votes at the LaSalle Parish Registrar of Voters Office, located across from the LaSalle Parish Courthouse at 1009 Courthouse Street Suite B, in Jena from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Voters may cast their early ballots today, Thursday and Saturday.
There will be no voting on Friday, November 10, as state offices are closed for Veterans Day. Veterans Day is Saturday, November 11, and early voting will be held that day since offices officially observed the holiday the day before.
The last day to request an absentee ballot for the November 18 election is November 14 and the last day for absentee ballots to be received is November 17.
Voters participating in the early voting process must bring with them an official photo identification (Louisiana driver’s license) or signature on a voter affidavit.
The ballot for the November 18 election will be shorter than what voters faced October 14, but nonetheless important. Three state races and five local races will be decided as no candidate received 50%-plus-one to be declared an outright winner.
The ballot will also include one local millage proposition and four constitutional amendments.
State Races Voters across the state will elect a Secretary of State, Attorney General and Treasurer as each of these races required a runoff to determine the winner.
“Gwen” Collins- Greenup (D) will face Nancy Landry (R) for the position of Secretary of State. During the primary election, both candidates received 19% of the total vote with just 16 votes separating the pair.
Lindsey Cheek (D) will face “Liz” Murrill (R) for the position of Attorney General. During the primary election, Murrill received 45% of the total vote while Cheek received 23%.
John Fleming (R) will face Dustin Granger (D) for the position of Treasurer. During the primary election, Fleming received 45% of the vote while Granger received 32%.
Local Races In LaSalle, the biggest race parish wide is for the position of LaSalle Parish Sheriff. Two candidates emerged on top from a field of six to advance to the runoff election: Scott McLendon and Lane Windham.
McLendon was the top vote getter in the primary, receiving 37% of the total votes while Windham received 27%.
Four positions on the LaSalle Parish Police Jury will be decided during the November 18 election.
In District 2, Rod Douglas will face Jordy Poole. During the primary, Poole was the high man receiving 48% of the vote while Douglas received 32%.
In District 7, Steve Cripps will face Brandon Streetman. During the primary, Streetman was the high man receiving 32% of the vote while Cripps received 26%.
In District 8, Wacker Pritchard will face Jarred Pugh. During the primary, Pritchard took the top spot with 24% but Pugh was close behind at 22%.
In District 9, Curt Ainsworth will face incumbent Brent Farley. Although Farley had a higher percentage of votes during the primary at 36%, Ainsworth was close behind with 35%. Only three votes separated the two men.
Voters in the Eden-Fellowship Volunteer Fire District will also vote on a 15-mill renewal proposition during the November 18 ballot.
This is a renewal that provides necessary funds for the operation of the fire district. The renewal is for ten years and will be voted on in Precincts 6-2, 7-1, 8-2, 8-3, 8-5, 8-7 and 10-1.
