June Fowler

Robert Mathew “June” Fowler Jr., 74, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his home.

He was born December 28, 1948 in Jena.

He was a 1966 graduate of Jena High School and later continued his education at Northwestern State University and went on to the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He was a patrol officer with the Monroe Police Department for seven years after college. He is best known for his kind and compassionate presence in the LaSalle Parish School System, where he served as a teacher, coach and mentor to thousands of students throughout the years. Though he had long since retired from education and coaching, he was a constant presence at various school sporting events, and was a source of wisdom for area coaches, and many others. He served as Justice of the Peace and Constable for LaSalle Parish. His most recent venture included public service as the district 5 member of the LaSalle Parish Police Jury, where he had served as the Jury’s President and Vice-President prior to his passing.

A memorial service was held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Mathew Fowler Sr. and Bobbie Jean Cockrell Fowler; brother, John Daniel Fowler; and sisters, Linda Faye Fowler and Julia Jannette Fowler.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Johonna Zoller Fowler; three sons, Richie Fowler, Matt Fowler (Kelly) and Billy Fowler (Ashley); two brothers, Billy Wayne Fowler (Ella) and Johnny Mac Fowler (Judy); sister-inlaw, Janet Zoller Girouard; grandchildren, Karli Simmons (Marc), Abigail Johnson (Robert), Payton Fowler, Lynnea Fowler, Dylan Fowler, Hannah Fowler, William Fowler, Austin Fowler, Wyatt Fowler, Katherine Fowler, Charlotte Fowler, Eleanor Fowler and Anessa Fowler; great grandchildren, Landry Simmons, Bailyn Simmons, Azariah Johnson and Boaz Johnson; and many other family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Bart Stewart, David Naquin, Ted McKee, Gary Don Mosely, Bill Humphries, Keith Tarver, Dwight Girouard, Danny Ross Crump, Roger Dobbs, Jack Derr, Buzz Scott, Leroy Husser, Lester Francis, Roger Cockrell, Wanda Gail Whatley, Phillip Morris, Shirley Jeffries, Chris Fowler, Jody Fowler, Tracy Fowler, Stacy Fowler, Alicia Spence, and Robert W. “Herky” Stone.
