Olla Woman’s Death Viewed As Homicide

The death of a 24-year-old Olla woman last week is being investigated as a homicide, according to the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO).

LPSO Detective Richard Smith said that Lacey Blaze Hayman Smith was found deceased at 1660 West Avenue on Tuesday, November 21.

“Around 10 a.m., we were requested by the Olla Police Department to assist in the investigation of a death at the residence on West Avenue,” Detective Smith said. “Upon arrival, we discovered Lacey Smith was deceased and she was soon afterwards officially pronounced by the LaSalle Parish Coroner’s Office at the scene.”

Detective Smith noted that Smith’s body was sent for an autopsy, with those results still pending, as the LPSO began the tedious process of investigating the death as a homicide.

Based on LPSO Jail records, her husband, Kenny Smith, Sr., 55, is currently in jail after he was arrested by the sheriff’s office on November 22 and charged with violation of a protective order, however, he has not been charged in connection with Lacey’s death at this time.

“This investigation is still a very active case and we ask the public for two things,” the detective concluded. “First, please be respectful of the victim’s family during this time regarding any statements on social media and second, if anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact any LPSO Detective at (318) 992-2151 or provide any anonymous information by calling 318-992-7300.”
