Lady Giants Get Big Non-District Wins

The Jena Lady Giants played two non-district games this past week as they always play a difficult non-district schedule each year to prepare them for playoff runs to Sulphur.

This week was no different as the Lady Giants had the Quitman Lady Wolverines come to town on Tuesday, March 26. Quitman came into the game as the #1 team in Division V Non-Select. Quitman also had a 21-3 record coming into the game.

The game would end a good one as the Lady Giants got on the board in the bottom of the second as Kiette Cooper would come in to score on an RBI single from Hallie Paul to give the Lady Giants a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Quitman would answer with a solo homerun to tie the game at one. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Giants would retake the lead as Hallie Paul would come in to score on an RBI single from Claire Bailey to give the Lady Giants a 2-1 lead. Once again Quitman would answer with a solo homerun in the top of the fifth to tie the game at two.

In the top of the sixth inning Quitman would take their first lead of the game as they would hit their third solo homerun and take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the seventh the Lady Giants would get a sacrifice fly from Haylee Dangerfield to tie the game at 3. The next batter, Kiette Cooper, would then hit a ground ball into right field to score Callie Decker and give the Lady Giants a walk off 4-3 victory.

Kiette Cooper picked up the win for the Lady Giants as she only gave up three runs on seven h i t s with ten strikeouts. Hallie Paul would lead the Lady Giants at the plate as she would have three hits with an RBI and a run scored.

On Thursday, March 28, the Lady Giants travelled to Winnsboro to take on the Franklin Parish Lady Patriots. The Lady Giants would get a two-run homerun from Cydney Kate Parker. Kiette Cooper would pitch a complete game shutout as she finished with 12 strikeouts and the Lady Giants would pick up a 4-0 win.

The Lady Giants are now 16-9 overall with a few more non-district games left on the schedule before getting ready for another playoff run. This week the Lady Giants were scheduled to play at Tioga on Tuesday, and on Thursday the Lady Giants will be at home against Grant. First pitch will be at 5:30.

Everyone, pack the park to cheer on the Lady Giants. If you can’t make it to the games then you can listen to all the live action on 102.7 KJNA. If you are not in the listening area then you can download the MIXLR app and search for KJNAFM or go online at www.kjnafmjena.mixlr.com.
