Election Year: Professional Protestors

Is it just me or does it seem every four years protests erupt across our nation? Do you remember in 2016, the rioting that took place during a protest against police violence stemming from the Alton Sterling event? How about in 2020 when the George Floyd death evoked another “summer of love” with violent protests and riots, car and building burnings, the takeover of police stations and parts of cities and even beatings and deaths around America? I mean, who can forget that CNN reporter saying “fiery but mostly peaceful protest” as buildings burned behind the reporter?

And here we are in 2024, when anti-Israel and pro-terrorist group protests are once again occurring in major cities causing disruptions from college campuses and election matters, to stopping traffic and even shutting down the Golden Gate Bridge in California.

Surely, our United States Constitution guarantees us the right to do these things, right? Well, actually, the First Amendment reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Did you notice the specific language? We are guaranteed the right to “peaceably assemble” but we are not given freedom to protest where violence occurs, property damage results or any other unlawful actions are taken by protestors.

From what we have witnessed in recent years and most recently on college campuses, many of these protests are not protected under our Constitution. And look at how the object of the protests have turned.

These protests went from being against police violence to actually proudly proclaiming death to America and identifying themselves with Hamas terrorists.

The United States has long been a place where peaceful protests were held, sometimes with great results and sometimes having no affect whatsoever. Many of our nation’s older black citizens remember well the peaceful protests led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and most of these citizens are appalled at what they see taking place today. Many have come out and spoken publicly that the type of behavior and violence being administered by protestors today would have been publicly rejected by Dr. King if he were alive today.

Listen to Dr. King’s own words: “In this nonviolent army, there is room for everyone who wants to join up. There is no color distinction. There is no examination, no pledge, except that, as a soldier in the armies of violence is expected to inspect his carbine and keep it clean, nonviolent soldiers are called upon to examine their greatest weapons: their heart, their conscience, their courage and sense of justice.”

He said another time: “I have tried to offer them my deepest compassion while maintaining my conviction that social change comes most meaningfully through nonviolent actions.”

But we live in a different world today. It’s a world filled with many liberal young adults who have never had to work a day in their life. Many have had everything given to them and they continue to expect things given to them when they whine, complain and pitch their hissy fits. They remind me of immature children ranting and raving until they get their way.

One thing I find most disturbing about the protests is the way in which they are organized and funded. From communists and liberal individuals, million-dollar Democrat Party elites bent on destroying morality, to organizations who have in their mission statements language to annihilate all Jews, millions of dollars are being funneled to various groups to fund these protests.

In essence, we have here in America professional protestors. It would not surprise me one bit if many of the same people were involved in the protests of 2016, 2020 and still going at it today. It is their job and they get rewarded handsomely to wreak havoc upon American streets.

What doesn’t surprise me is that these protests are not seen in Republican cities or towns. A careful examination reveals that they have and are taking place in Democrat ran cities or liberal universities where they know they will face no consequences for their actions.

Those Democrat politicians have given them a license to protest, a license to disrupt, a license to destroy and in many cases, a license to kill.

It is one thing to stand up against real or preserved injustices but it is entirely another thing to identify yourself with terrorists and shout death to the country that gives you the right to freely speak.

Last week, I wrote about stopping the madness of sending so much of our tax money to other countries while our own country is suffering so much. However, I believe I would make one exception to my rule.

If America is so bad and Hamas and Palestine is so great, I say we use our tax money to purchase airfare and fly those that hate America so much to live in that great location. There would be no charge to them at all and they could finally live in an area that suits their lifestyle.
