Ten members of the Jena High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter qualified for the national conference in California this summer after great performances at the state conference.
The state FBLA conference was held March 24-26 at the Lafayette Cajundome where students from across the state competed in various competitions with the opportunity to qualify for the national conference set for June 27-July 2 in Anaheim, California.
Jena students who qualified for the national conference included: Makayla Bradford, 1st at state in Client Service. Grace Wheeler, 2nd at state in Intro to Event Planning. Olivia Lambeth, 2nd at state in Intro to Event Planning. Iris Smith, 3rd at state in Social Media Strategies. Caitlin McCormick, 3rd at state in Social Media Strategies. Addison Callender, 3rd at state in Social Media Strategies. Ada Kimbrough, 3rd at state in Journalism. James Graham, 2nd at state in Cyber Security. Dru Douglas, 1st at state in Business Law. Dylan Davis, 1st at state in Agribusiness. Also at the state competition, Team 1 of the JHS Current Events Team placed first. Although they were recognized as being the best in Louisiana, there is currently no Current Events competition at the national level.
Team 1 consists of members Sophie Parker, Coben Willis and Luke Wright.
The JHS Current Events Team 2 placed seventh at the state competition. Their members are Luke Smith, Wyatt Wheeler and Triniti Williams.
Only fourth place winners and above qualified for the national conference. Others competing at the state conference included: Zaylee Walker, 6th in Word Processing. Wyatt Allison, 6th in Public Policy and Advocacy. Lily LaCroix, 6th in Business Ethics. Ada Kimbrough, 6th in Business Ethics. Connor Vercher, 6th in Computer Game & Simulation Programming. Christian Villanueva, 6th in Computer Game & Simulation Programming. Samuel Knight, 9th in Client Services. Others who competed but did not place were: Mallory Courtney, Business Law.
