Dominance Continues For Lady Tigers

The LaSalle Lady Tigers continued to dominate the regular season games this past week with three more huge wins to run their regular season record to 28-3 overall and maintain their #1 ranking in Division IV Non-Select.

This past week LaSalle plated 42 runs in three games against Harrisonburg, Beau Chene and Fairview, and only gave up 2 runs in these three games. In 31 games this season, LaSalle is carrying a .440 team batting average and .521 on base percentage.

Allie Murphrey is hitting a team leading .656 followed by Leah Steen .486, Leanna Womack .483, Landry Long .464, Rheese Martin .458, Kinley Morris .436, Lana Childress .409, Mattie Parham .388, Klaire Fenoli .384 and Adde Taylor .360. This is just the ladies that have at least 50 at-bats. There are others on the team who have high batting averages and have 5-15 at-bats.

One thing for sure: these girls can rake. The Lady Tigers have 31 home runs this season. If you like to watch great offense on the softball field, make sure you catch these girls in action.

The girls don’t just outscore every team they face, they can play defense too. In 31 games these girls have committed 31 errors. They have turned 3 double plays. LaSalle is carrying a .943 fielding percentage.

Not only do these girls play great defense they have two studs in the circle that can sling it. Rheese Martin is capping off a great high school career in her senior season with a 13-2 record, 3.353 ERA and 101 strikeouts. The most staggering number is “Rowdy” Martin has faced 334 batters and only walked 4 this season.

To go along with the senior Martin, LaSalle has a freshman in Landry Long that has pitched 84 innings this season. Long is carrying a 14-1 record with 134 strikeouts. Landry Long has faced 350 batters and walked 32 and struck out 134. Long is carrying a 1.000 ERA. These girls have proven to be double trouble in the circle for the Lady Tigers.

LaSalle is looking to close out the regular season against Grace Christian and Harrisonburg with both games being at home this week in Olla.

The LHSAA softball playoff brackets will be released today, but with LaSalle’s number one ranking, they will not play their first playoff game until the second round, which will be early next week. They will only have to win two games to make it to Sulphur for the state tournament set for May 1 and 2.

Come out and support these girls as they are blazing a trail toward the post season and a trip to Sulphur, Louisiana. Hope to see you at the games.
