Last Friday, excitement filled the LaSalle Parish Libraries as they hosted the second event of the Summer Reading Program—The Dinosaur Experience! Kids, parents and staff at both the Jena and Olla library branches enjoyed a fun-filled and educational show that kept everyone smiling from beginning to end.
The event began with Ranger Marty, the lively and engaging host who quickly captured the kids’ attention by asking about their favorite dinosaurs. The children eagerly shared what they knew about these incredible creatures.
Ranger Marty didn’t just stop at asking questions— he shared some amazing facts about different dinosaurs, like their sharp claws and the unique characteristics that make each one special. The kids listened intently to the fun information.
The real highlights of the show were the dinosaur guests! The first to join Ranger Marty was Rexie, a baby T-Rex who charmed everyone with her playful sounds and movements. The kids were thrilled to get a close-up view and even had the chance to pet Rexie after the show!
Just when the excitement reached its peak, a giant, Utahraptor named Fluffy made a spectacular entrance, stomping around with such realism exciting everyone in the library!
Overall, this event was a great mix of laughter and learning. The Dinosaur Experience was success and a wonderful addition to this year’s Summer Reading Program.
And there’s more fun to come! The Summer Reading Program continues throughout the season with special visits from Johnette Downing on June 13, author M.L. Tarpley on June 20, Pair-A-Docs on June 27 at the Jena location and Ms. Brayden Keene on June 27 at the Olla location. Don’t miss out on the adventures to come at your local library—so much more is in come!
During the month of June, all Friday programs and special entertainers are provided in collaboration with the McKinney Vento’s Federal Grant through the LaSalle Parish School Board. Children of all ages are invited to attend each Summer Reading Program event, and all programs are free of charge.
In addition to the Story Hour programs, the LaSalle Parish Library is encouraging children to read this summer by offering special prizes, including gift certificates, for children who read the most this summer.
