“Old Tom” was the belt OSHS Principal E.E. Major Sims used on students who did not follow his rules. It was actually an athletic belt worn by Sims during his college years when he was a standout athlete, lettering in 15 of the 16 available sports at Louisiana Normal (now NSU).
