Lady Giants Remain Unbeaten in District

The Jena Lady Giants had Senior Night last week on Tuesday, January 20, as the Weston Lady Wolves came to town for a non-district showdown.

The Lady Giants honored their three seniors in Triniti Williams, Sophie Parker, and Lily Lacroix. These seniors have meant a lot to the program over their four years and are big reason it has been rebuilt and is having the success it is having currently.

The Lady Giants came into the game with a 15-5 record and ranked #4 in the Div. III Non-Select power rankings. If you have watched the Lady Giants the last two years you will know that they like to jump out to a big lead early with their aggressive defense and fast paced offense. That is exactly what they did on Senior Night, where the score at the end of the 1st quarter was 27-10.

The game was never in doubt as a running clock was instituted in the second half and the Lady Giants would win the game by the final score of 70-31.

Lily Lacroix would have a big night, making 5 three-point shots and scoring 19 points with 8 rebounds. Triniti Williams would finish with 8 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 8 steals. Sydney Williams had 10 points in the game.

On Friday night, January 23, the Lady Giants would play another district game as Bunkie would come to town. Both teams would come into the game with 2-0 district records.

Once again, the Lady Giants’ defense would be stifling as they would allow Bunkie to only score 4 points in the first quarter. The Lady Giants would take a 36-4 lead into the 2nd quarter.

Sydney Williams would have an awesome start to the game as she would score 11 points in the 1st quarter. The game would pretty much be over at this point. Jena would take a 47-14 lead into halftime and would go on to win 59-30.

The Lady Giants would make six three-point shots in the game. Ahja Dorsey would come off the bench to lead all scorers with 17 points. Triniti Williams had 14 points, Sydney Williams had 11 points, Hallie Phillips had 6 points, Lily Lacroix had 6 points, Rylee Masters had 3 points, and Jacquelin Brooks had 2 points.

The Lady Giants are now 17-5 on the season and 3-0 in district play. They are currently still ranked #4 in the Division III Non-Select power rankings.

This Friday, January 30, the Lady Giants will travel to Vidalia for another district game. On Tuesday, February 3, the Lady Giants will be on the road against a good Glenmora team.

But all of Jena is anxiously awaiting Friday night, February 6, as the Buckeye Lady Panthers will come to Jena for what will likely be the District Championship.

The Lady Panthers return a loaded quad from last year and it should be a great game. All fans are encouraged to come out for the huge game and support the Lady Giants.
