Giants Start Playoffs Friday at Home

The Jena Giants finished up their regular season this past week with one win and one loss and are prepared to make a deep playoff run that begins this Friday.

The Giants would play two more games to finish out the season last week. On Tuesday night, February 17, the Giants would defeat Monterey at home 61-40.

Daniel Hatcher had 11 points and 4 rebounds. Zadrien Cooper had 7 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists, and 6 steals. Xavier Brown had 11 points. Zac Brown had 9 points and 3 steals. Titan Smith had 9 points.

On Wednesday night, February 18, the Giants would travel to Alexandria to take on the ASH Trojans. Jena would play hard and would go into halftime down by 10 against one of the best teams in the state. Xavier Brown had 9 first half points.

ASH would go on to win 72-51. In the game Xavier Brown had 13 points, Zadrien Cooper had 11 points, Daniel Hatcher had 9 points, Gus Morphis had 8 points, Titan Smith had 4 points, Brittain Johnson had 3 points, and Zac Brown had 3 points.

The Giants finish the regular season with a 13-8 record and for the third year in a row under Head Coach Matt Whitman, will be headed to the playoffs.

As of press time Monday morning, it appears that the Giants will be the #13 seed in Division III Non-Select and will host #20 Caldwell on Friday night, February 27, at Guy Campbell Memorial Stadium in the first round.

The Giants defeated Caldwell earlier in the season in district play at Caldwell. Don’t forget that all of the Jena Giant playoff games are broadcasted on 102.7 KJNAFM where live, courtside action will be provided.
