Jena High School senior Deondria Jones is perhaps the most decorated powerlifter in JHS history, adding another State Championship to her repertoire this past weekend at the LHSAA State Powerlifting Meet in Kenner.
Jones, who earned her second consecutive state title, lifted a total of 1,065 pounds during the meet in the Super Heavy Weight division, engraving her mark on the JHS girls powerlifting program.
When she was a freshman, she placed third; as a sophomore, she placed 2nd or State Runner-Up; as a junior she was State Champion and this past Friday she defended her title with another State Champion podium appearance.
“In her four years at Jena High School, she has never not finished on the podium,” Girls Powerlifting Coach Russell Dorton said. “She is without a doubt, one of the most decorated lifters in JHS history.”
Joining Jones on the podium in the Super Heavy Weight classification for Division III was senior Arin Ashley, who finished in third place.
Another senior, Ada Kimbrough, claimed the 220 pound State Runner-Up title during the state meet.
