Lady Giants continue to roll

The Jena Lady Giants played a couple more difficult non-district games this past week and picked up big wins, including a win on their Senior Night.

On Monday, March 30, the Lady Giants played West Ouachita at home. The Lady Giants are known for their difficult schedule and have beaten some of the top teams from every classification this year. West Ouachita would come into the game ranked #15 in Division I while the Lady Giants have been ranked #1 in Division III Non-Select for the entire season.

The Lady Giants would once again get a great performance from Kiette Cooper as she would pitch a perfect game and finish with 14 strikeouts. The ladies scored 10 runs on 9 hits in the game, including a 3-run homerun by Triniti Williams. Callie Decker had 2 hits and 2 RBIs in the game while Sydney Williams had 2 hits and an RBI. Bailey Durham would add a solo homerun. The Lady Giants would defeat West Ouachita 100.

On Tuesday, March 31, the Lady Giants would honor their four seniors on Senior Night. The four seniors are Callie Decker, Kiette Cooper, Triniti Williams, and Autumn Sharp.

This senior class is one of the most successful in school history with three trips to Sulphur, three district championships, and state runner-up finish on their resume. They would love to add another trip to Sulphur and a state championship to the resume.

On their special recognition night, they would face a very good Grant team that came into the game ranked in the top ten in Division 2 Non-Select. Grant is also a team that will be back in the district with the Lady Giants next season. The Lady Giants bats would continue to stay hot in this one as they would go on to win 8-1.

Mary Wood would lead the Lady Giants at the plate going 3-4 with 2 RBIs in the game. Triniti Williams, Callie Decker, and Kiette Cooper all had 2 hits in the game as well.

Cooper would pick up the win giving up only one run on three hits and finishing with twelve strikeouts.

With the win the Lady Giants are now 22-3 on the season and are still ranked #1 in the power rankings by a full point over the #2 team.

The Lady Giants only have two home games left and the one this Friday is a big one as Pineville comes to town. Pineville is ranked #2 in Division I Select and is one of the best teams in the state. The game will start at 5:00 p.m.

Be there and be loud as the Lady Giants play their last couple of regular season games and get ready for the playoffs.
