For many men (and a few women), pocketknives are a staple they can’t do without. Morning routines consist of shoving one into pants pockets to use throughout the day as needed - a pocket without one almost seems useless. An apt description of the humble pocketknife could be summed up as man’s best friend, with little debate as to the authenticity of the statement. Its ancestorial history dates to prehistoric times as a survival tool crafted from sharpened stones, and it provided a means of self-defense, aided in building shelters, and was vital for hunting and preparing food. The pocketknife has established its place historically and continues to fill an important role as a tool and collectible today.
Easy to transport and convenient to use, pocketknives have been a part of human history since prehistoric times. Pictured above is a pre-1945 Barlow style from a local collection.
