Living off the Land
After having a small garden at my house for over forty years, I have come to the conclusion that I would be in trouble if I had to feed everyone from the garden. Through the years I have had moderate to successful gardens and have grown many different kinds of vegetables. I grow my vegetables organically and mostly in raised beds using only natural fertilizers and no pesticides. Much of the soil around Jena is hard clay and must be enriched with soil amendments to have a successful garden. In zone eight of Louisiana (our area) you can grow two or three crops in the same bed in the same year.
