Bard of the Bayou brings sing-alongs to the LaSalle Libraries

Last Friday, LaSalle Parish’s Summer Reading Program hosted Johnette Downing. Downing is a Louisiana-proud author, illustrator, and musician.

Known by many different names, like the “Bard of the Bayou,” Downing is a longtime guest of our local libraries. Downing entertains kids with her broad range of songs, stories, and games that each highlight Louisiana’s best-known foods, phrases, and animal friends.

This Friday, the Library’s Summer Reading Program will continue with an event known as Drum Life. Guest Johannes Quilitz, host of Drum Life, brings an interactive, family-friendly musical experience. In his program, he invites audience members to become the band by using the provided drums and percussion.

Children of all ages are invited to attend each Summer Reading Program event, and all programs are free of charge. During July, all Friday programs and special entertainers are provided in collaboration with the McKinney-Vento Federal Grant through the LaSalle Parish School Board.

As the Summer Reading Program winds down, the La-Salle Parish Library wants to remind all children to read this summer and will be offering special prizes, including gift certificates, for children who read the most.

For more information, please contact the LaSalle Parish Library at 318-992-5675, visit them on Facebook at LaSalle Parish Library, or at www.lasalle.lib.la.us
