Tigers ready for 2026 football season
The wait is nearly over for the LaSalle Tigers as preparations continue for another exciting football season. With a new district alignment, several fresh opponents on the schedule, and a rivalry matchup looming this week, there is plenty of anticipation surrounding Tiger football heading into the fall.
LaSalle got an early look at where the team stands during a preseason scrimmage against the larger Vidalia Vikings. While the Vikings brought size and depth to the field, the Tigers left encouraged by what they accomplished offensively. Running their basic offensive package, LaSalle consistently moved the football with a combination of tough inside runs and efficient short passing.
The Tigers were able to sustain drives and show flashes of what they hope will become a balanced offensive attack this season. Defensively the Tigers stopped the run entirely and looked sound in their preparation for a run first offense.
Of course, preseason scrimmages are as much about identifying weaknesses as they are celebrating strengths. The coaching staff noted the areas that need attention before the games begin to count.
Those lessons learned from the Vidalia scrimmage will be a major focus in practice this week as the Tigers prepare for their jamboree matchup against longtime rival St. Mary’s. That contest is set for Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at NSU’s Turpin Stadium and should provide another valuable test before the regular season kicks off. Rivalry games always bring extra intensity, and the Tigers will be looking to sharpen their execution while building confidence heading into Week 1.
The 2026 schedule features an intriguing mix of familiar opponents and brand-new challenges. New faces include Glenbrook, a respected Class 1A private school from Minden, and Beekman Charter, a talented Class 3A Select school from Bastrop. Those additions should provide different styles of competition and give the Tigers opportunities to measure themselves against programs they haven’t seen before.
LaSalle will also renew acquaintances with several familiar foes. The Tigers are no strangers to Buckeye, one of Cenla’s talented Class 3A programs. Former district rivals Lakeview and Montgomery remain on the schedule as well, bringing plenty of familiarity and competitive history to the season.
Perhaps the biggest storyline entering the year is LaSalle’s move into a new district. The Tigers will compete against Delta Charter, Northwood, Block, and Bolton. While Bolton will not field a football team this season, the remaining district slate presents a fresh set of challenges and opportunities for Coach and the Tigers.
A new district means new rivalries, a new race for playoff positioning, and a clean slate. Every team enters the season with hopes of making a run, and LaSalle is no different. The Tigers believe they have the pieces to compete, and the positive moments from the Vidalia scrimmage provided an early glimpse of what this group can become.
There is still work to do before the season opener, but the foundation is being built and built well. If the Tigers continue to improve on the lessons learned this preseason while leaning on a physical running game and efficient offense, they will have every opportunity to make noise in their new district.
Friday night’s jamboree against St. Mary’s is the next step in that journey. For the LaSalle Tigers, a new season is here, bringing new faces, new challenges, and most importantly, new opportunities.
