For 17-year-old Jeremiah Wilson, Elvis Presley’s music is more than a collection of songs, it is a way to brighten someone’s day.
Wilson, a senior at Buckeye High School, has been performing as an Elvis impersonator at nursing homes throughout Central Louisiana. On Thursday, Aug. 20, he brought his tribute to Elvis to residents at LaSalle Nursing Home.
Wilson performs at 17 nursing homes across Central Louisiana, sharing songs made famous by the King of Rock and Roll with audiences of all ages.
His Elvis journey began after his father introduced him to Presley’s music through an Elvis documentary.
“After my dad introduced me to Elvis, that was it,” Wilson said. “I started singing around the house, and the real adventure started when my parents took me to the Louisiana Elvis Festival in Alexandria in 2023.”
It was at the festival that Wilson met David Lee, an Ultimate World Champion Tribute Artist. Lee invited the young performer on stage to sing, an experience Wilson credits with helping launch his Elvis tribute career.
Since then, Wilson has continued to develop his act and has already reached a milestone many Elvis tribute artists dream of achieving. He is one of only 20 children who have had the opportunity to perform at Graceland, Elvis Presley’s longtime home in Memphis, Tennessee.
For Wilson, however, the most rewarding part of performing isn’t the recognition it is the reaction from his audience.
“Just knowing I can brighten someone’s day and make them smile, and maybe they were having a rough day, means the world to me,” he said.
Wilson believes Elvis’ music has something for everyone.
“No matter how you are feeling, there is always an Elvis song to fit whatever mood you’re in,” he said.
While performing has become an important part of his life, Wilson stays busy with other activities. He is working toward earning his Eagle Scout badge and preparing to graduate from Buckeye High School and attend college. He also enjoys playing video games, spending time with friends and participating in his church’s youth group.
Still, performing remains especially meaningful to him.
As he visits nursing homes and sings for residents, Wilson said his biggest goal is simply to make someone’s day a little better.
Looking ahead, Wilson hopes to continue pursuing his passion for Elvis and eventually compete in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition at Graceland.
His dream is to become an Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist but for now, he is happy to keep doing what started it all: putting on the Elvis look, singing the songs and bringing a little joy to the people in his audience.
