Photo of the Week…

When I was a student at La Tech in 1960, we had a concert by Julie London and her husband Bobby Troup. It was standing room. The applause after each song was explosive. The woman knew how to ignite a crowd! After each song the “master of ceremonies” had to calm the audience down so the show could continue. Two of the songs so moved the audience that Julie had to sing another round of the previous song. Man, oh man did she know how to move a crowd. From that moment on I became a Julie London fan.

She had many songs that were national hits. My favorite two songs were “Cry Me a River” and “Never the Less, I’m in Love with You.” She sang in some of the best places such as Vegas, New York, and Chicago Clubs. She was in such demand that she turned down a lot more invitations than she accepted.

Julie was also an actress appearing in:

1. Nabonga

2. Diamond Horseshoe

3. On Stage Everybody

4. Night In Paradise

5. The red house

6. Tap Roots

7. Task Force

8. Return of the Frontiersman

9. The Fat Man

10. The Fighting Chance

11. Crime Against Joe

12. The Girl Can’t Help It

13. Checkmate

14. Follow The Sun

15. The Eleventh Hour

16. The Dick Powell Theatre

17. The Alfred Hitchcock Hour

18. The Tonight Show

19. I Spy

20. The Man From U.N.C.L.E

21. The Hollywood Squares

22. The Big Valley

23. Adam-12

24. Emergency Julie won several Golden Globe Awards and won more fans than any woman singer in movies and dramas.

Her career began in the early 1940’s and continued until the

1980’s.

She died on October 19, 2000. She was 74 years old.
