Mamie Farris

Mamie Josephine Farris, 72, was called home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Christus St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was born September 6, 1951 in Nebo, LA to the union of her parents, William and Hazel Simmons.

She was an active member of New Evergreen Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful member of the Women’s Ministry.

Mamie attended Goodpine High School and later was employed for many years as a Cook at Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023, at New Evergreen Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Wilson; her parents; two sons, Jimmy Farris and Stephanie Farris; and a daughter, Michelle Farris; four sisters, Walterteen Thomas, Rosie Bell, Jo Savage and Hazel Murray.

Those left to cherish her sweet and loving memories include two sons, Tommy Farris and Anthony Farris, both of Jena; eight daughters, Ophelia Bell, Lydia Farris, Annissa Farris, Cheryl Farris-Jackson, Sherrie Farris, Angela Jones, Josie Farris, all of Jena and Jamila Farris of Ville Platte, LA; two brothers, Richard Simmons of Jena and William Jr. of Victorville, CA; three sisters, Linda Hunter (Bill) of Victorville, CA, Sandra Simmons of Jena and Peggy Fagan of Jonesville; her honorary daughter, Bridgette Gaines; her pride and joy, 29 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
