James Young

James Dalton Young, 67, of West Monroe, LA, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in West Monroe.

He was born August 12, 1956 in Jena, LA.

James had an extraordinary career that spanned several branches of the medical field. His journey began as a truck driver in the Army National Guard before he transitioned to serving as an ambulance driver. Inspired by his experiences on the front lines of emergency care, James pursued further education and became an EMT, a paramedic, an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), an Associate Degree Registered Nurse, a Baccalaureate Registered Nurse, and eventually achieved his goal of obtaining a Master’s Degree as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 1992.

Throughout his career in the medical field, James made a significant impact on the lives of countless patients and their families. His dedication to providing compassionate care was evident during his time at LSU Oschner in Monroe, Louisiana. James took immense pride in working alongside talented colleagues and had the privilege of training numerous students who aspired to follow in his footsteps.

Beyond his professional achievements, James will be remembered for his selfless nature and unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband to Ellen Joy Young, and together, they embraced their educational dreams and supported each other wholeheartedly.

James held a special place in his heart for his children and the bond he shared with them was one of deep love and respect. He was a doting grandfather and found immense joy in witnessing his grandchildren’s’ growth and accomplishments.

Outside of his professional and family life, James valued the simple pleasures. He cherished spending quality time with his loved ones, knowing that these moments would become precious memories for all who shared them.

James will be forever remembered for his selflessness, kindness, and dedication to his profession and family. His legacy extends far beyond his accomplishments in the medical field. He leaves behind a profound impact on all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace knowing that his love and compassion continue to inspire us all.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Cedar Crest Baptist Church, with Dr. Greg Clark officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
