Lady Giants Lose Heartbreaker

The Jena Lady Giants had their final non-district game, before district begins, last Friday night as they took on Calvin at Guy Campbell Memorial Gymnasium. The Lady Giants came into the game with a 7-7 record and were looking to pick up a big win going into district play.

The Lady Giants played well throughout the game as they had the lead for the first three quarters. Sophomore Triniti Williams had 16 first half points as the Lady Giants led 29-27 at the half. The Lady Giants continued to play well in the third quarter as junior Kaylee Kemp made two three-point shots and the Lady Giants outscored Calvin 13-9 in the quarter to take a 42-36 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Giants offense went cold as Calvin came back to take 51-48 lead late in the game.

After a free throw made by Calvin, the Lady Giants had a chance to tie the score as they rushed the ball up the floor and got it into the hands of Williams who made a shot with 0.4 seconds on the clock and was fouled. Williams went to the free throw line with a shot to tie the game. The shot would be no good and the Lady Giants would get the rebound and throw up one more shot but it would be no good as Calvin would go on to win 51-50.

In the game for the Lady Giants Williams had 24 points, Kemp had 6 points, Baylee Burlew had 5 points, Cat Brinson had 4 points, Jewellia Champlin had 4 points, Lily Lacroix had 3 points, Noel Kimbrough had 2 points, and Braylie Poole had 2 points. The Lady Giants record is now 7-8 going into district play.

The Lady Giants will play two district home games this week with varsity action starting at 6:00 pm. On Tuesday, the Lady Giants played Bunkie and on Friday they will play Bolton.

Everyone, come out to the game to cheer on the Lady Giants and give them a good home court advantage.
