False Allegations Made Against Gibson Center RV Park

False Allegations Made Against Gibson Center RV Park

Louisiana Department of Environment Quality officials made a surprise inspection of The Gibson Event Center and RV Park, located in north Jena, Friday morning after allegations were made that RVers there were dumping raw sewage onto the ground and into trash bags.

According to documents from the DEQ, the allegations were proven false and everything regarding sewage and wastewater was in compliance at the park.

Owner Steve Thomas said the allegations is another attempt by some residents of Jena to attack his RV park in the aftermath of a contentious Jena Town Council meeting held September 3 where his park was the subject of much attention.

“I just can’t believe that I’m having to go through all that we’re being put through,” Thomas said. “I’m just a businessman trying to make a living and it feels like I’m under attack and my RVers feel like they are not wanted.”

He also said that he feels discriminated against as his park is the only park in the parish that is under attack.

“And now we have people calling in false violations to DEQ on us,” he said. “When will this end? How far will they go?”

A more detailed story will be in next week’s newspaper.
