Lady Tigers Headed Back to Sulphur

Dominating wins over Plain Dealing & DeQuincy

The LaSalle Lady Tigers took care of business in the second and third rounds of the playoffs to secure a trip back to Sulphur and the state softball tournament. These ladies are packing their bags and heading south to complete a mission that started two years ago.

After receiving a bye for the first round as the #1 seed in Division IV Non-Select, the Lady Tigers beat #17 Plain Dealing 15-0 in three innings and #9 DeQuincy 17-2 in four innings last week to punch their ticket to Sulphur.

Landry Long hit two home runs and drove in three as La-Salle defeated the Lady Lions 15-0 in Olla on Tuesday, April 22, in the second-round matchup. Long homered in the first and second innings.

LaSalle won thanks in part to eight runs in the second inning. Leah Steen hit a solo home run to center field. Allie Murphrey doubled, scoring one run and Kinley Morris tripled, scoring one run. Landry Long hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs, Leanna Womack tripled, scoring one run and a couple of errors scored the other two runs.

LaSalle scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning. Kinley Morris tripled, scoring one run, a passed ball scored one run, Rheese Martin scored after tagging up, an error scored another run, then Leah Steen doubled, scoring one run.

Senior pitcher Rheese Martin earned the win for the Lady Tigers. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over two and one-third innings, striking out five and walking none. Landry Long appeared in relief for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers also accumulated 11 hits in the game. Kinley Morris, Rheese Martin, Leah Steen and Landry Long each collected two hits for LaSalle. Rheese Martin stole three bases. The Lady Tigers ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases in this game. They also did not commit a single error in the field. Allie Murphrey had the most chances in the field with seven.

After the run-rule win over Plain Dealing, LaSalle again stayed hot to won big over DeQuincy 17-2 on Friday, April 25. DeQuincy opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two doubles. Maddie Vinateri doubled, scoring two runs.

LaSalle took the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to doubles by Landry Long, Rheese Martin and Mattie Parham. A single by Martin, a tag up by Allie Murphrey and a single by Mattie Parham helped the Lady Tigers extend the lead in the second inning.

LaSalle added four more runs in the bottom of the third on four hits. Leah Steen hit a solo home run, Landry Long singled, scoring one run, Rheese Martin singled, scoring one run and Mattie Parham singled, scoring one run. The Lady Tigers added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to run rule DeQuincy. Kinley Morris singled, scoring one run, Rheese Martin singled, scoring two runs, and Leanna Womack homered, scoring two runs to end the game with the walk off. Rheese Martin earned the win for LaSalle. The starter gave up four hits and two runs over three innings, striking out one and walking none. Landry Long tossed one inning of zero-run ball for LaSalle in relief. Long surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking none.

LaSalle collected 18 hits in the game. Mattie Parham led the Lady Tigers with 5 RBIs. Parham went 3 for 3 on the day. Rheese Martin went 4 for 4 at the plate to lead LaSalle in hits. Kinley Morris, Allie Murphrey, Leanna Womack and Landry Long each collected multiple hits for the Lady Tigers. LaSalle did not commit a single error in the contest.

These ladies are primed and ready for this trip to Sulphur. They will face a familiar foe on Friday, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. in the #4 Oak Grove Lady Tigers. This will be the game of the tournament, as the two teams on the other side of the bracket have both been beaten by LaSalle and Oak Grove.

Be sure to be there on Friday to cheer on our LaSalle Lady Tigers as they work to complete a mission. Hope to see you at the games.
