The #9 LaSalle Tigers start playoffs

A win Thursday sets up rematch against #8 Haynesville

As the Tigers finished up their regular season, the boys finished up a gauntlet of high-level competition that will serve them well as they get ready for the post season.

Despite suffering tough losses against the Northwood Falcons on April 9 (7-2), the Buckeye Panthers on April 10 (13-0) and the Grant Cougars on April 13 (11-3), the experience gained in those games will pay dividends as the post season begins this week.

During the Grant game, Lane Burnham led LaSalle with two hits in three at bats. Tuff Street and Kasen Maxwell each stole multiple bases. The Tigers stole eight bases in the game and turned a double play in the game as well.

As the LHSAA playoff brackets were released last week, LaSalle found themselves ranked #9, and they are set to play their first-round game this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Olla. The Tigers will enjoy being the ones favored against #24 West St. John, and if things go according to plan it will serve as a nice tune up game against a familiar opponent in #8 Haynesville, who received a bye for the first round.

Earlier in the season the Tigers got the best of the Golden Tor 10-4. Despite this win and playing seven more games than Haynesville against tough competition, the power points did not fall in the Tiger’s favor, and they will have to travel to Haynesville should they win this Thursday.

This year has proven to be a success thus far, but head coach Josh Boyett and the boys want more this year. The plan to get better year to year is going well as the Tigers avenged last year’s district losses to Logansport and Montgomery.

They are going into the post season in the Top 10, five spots ahead of last year’s number 14 ranking. Throughout this season, the team has faced injuries, setbacks, and personnel shuffling but it has not stopped the momentum the young team has gained as the season progressed.

Please show up and support these young men as they keep building up the program and continue their quest for post season success. Go Tigers!
