On June 30 through July 2, the Centennial Cultural Center in Olla hosted its annual camp for children with special needs.
Each year, the camp features a unique theme, with this year’s celebration, “Color My World,” encouraging creativity, fun, and friendship through a variety of engaging activities.
Each morning, campers began the day with music and dancing before rotating through themed activity stations designed to provide hands-on learning, creativity, and excitement.
On the third and final day of the camp, kids and volunteers went to the Urania Park to enjoy games, outdoor activities, and time together.
The camp was coordinated by Mrs. Jenene Bignar, LaSalle Parish Special Education Supervisor, in partnership with Mrs. Donna Lindsey. Together, they worked to provide a memorable experience for every child who attended.
Both Mrs. Bignar and Mrs. Lindsey would like to express their appreciation to the dedicated volunteers who generously gave their time and energy throughout the week.
“This camp would not be possible without our amazing volunteers,” they shared. “Their kindness, enthusiasm, and willingness to serve helped make this a truly special experience for our campers and their families.”
Volunteers for the camp included Sharon McKay, Bert Bowen, Kharis Bowen, Chasity Sherrill, Samantha Kent, Brooke DeLaSalle, Harley DeLaSalle, Jaylyn Smith, Charlene Richard, Seth Richard, Cindy Humphries, Jaycie Beaubouef, and R.V. Couch.
During the month of July, the Centennial Cultural Center will host a literacy camp and a science camp.
